(MMBA). Nelson and her daughter will be
participating in the Daisy 5K, benefiting MMBA,
on Mothers Day, May 13, 2001. For every

Cradle the Thought; A Journal for the New
Mothers First Year by Tracy D. Nelson
(ISBN 0-9703947-0-5) is available from Little Bit
Publishing. Cradle the Thought can be
found at www.cradlethethought.com, Amazon.com,
Borders, BookPeople, and several baby boutiques
and gift stores in Austin, Texas.
The Daisy 5K, held annually on Mothers
Day, is the oldest foot race in Austin. The
Austin Runners Club will be presenting the 24th
running of this event this year. In addition to
being the oldest race in Austin, the Daisy 5K was
the first all womens event, and remains
that way to this day. This 5K offers individual
age group categories, along with a variety of
Mother/Daughter team categories, a baby jogger
division, and a pregnant mothers division.
This year, Austin Runners Club selected
Mothers Milk Bank at Austin as its beneficiary.
Race committee member Hazel Russell states,
"In keeping with tradition, we have sought a
charity that aims to help women or their families.
In this instance we feel we have discovered a
charity that exemplifies the essence of
motherhood."
The mission of Mothers Milk Bank at
Austin is to establish a milk bank to collect,
pasteurize, and distribute donor human milk to
premature and ill infants and children in the
Austin area; to educate the public about the
superiority of breastfeeding over alternative
forms of nourishment for babies less than one
year of age; and to encourage breastfeeding and
support breastfeeding mothers.
