Dr. Phillips Helps Patient Deliver Baby and Dream-Come-True

On May 14, 1998, Dr. Michael Phillips delivered a healthy 8 lb. 8 oz. bouncing baby for patient Tracy Nelson. What neither patient nor doctor realized at the time was that Nelson would be inspired by her experiences with her daughter and go on to publish a book for other new mothers.

Cradle the Thought - A Journal for the New Mother's First Year is an insightful weekly journal allowing a new mother to capture the most important moments of her first year with her baby. Each week, Cradle the Thought supplies thought-provoking questions, prompting the new mother to reflect on her own feelings and activities, and providing a guided diary to record information about the growth and development of her baby. Topics include baby's sleeping and eating habits, mother's relationships with friends and family members, pediatrician well-visits, developmental milestones, baby's mobility, baby's personality, and nicknames.

This journal is different from traditional baby books, offering more detailed questions which allow the new mother to record exciting day-to-day developments and changes. While most traditional baby books capture major milestones in a somewhat ceremonial format, Cradle the Thought is more intimate.

Dr. Phillips comments, "The experiences a mother has with her newborn may at times be fast and fleeting, but the love never is. Cradle the Thought will give every mother a way to hold on to all the special moments....and remember."

Nelson feels that Cradle the Thought will allow new mothers to capture the exciting feelings and experiences of enjoying their babies; it will also be a treasured keepsake for their children when they have children of their own.

Nelson has enjoyed success beyond what she had imagined. She started with a modest print run of 150 books and managed to sell out within one month; her book is currently on the presses for a reprint. Cradle the Thought can be found at www.cradlethethought.com, at several fine baby stores in Austin, and at Amazon.com.

What message would Nelson give to other new mothers? "Don't forget to keep track of the little things that make new motherhood so magical. And remember that you can always accomplish any goal you set your mind to."

Brochures and a display copy of Cradle the Thought are located in the waiting area of Austin Area OB/GYN.
